Rob Porter is joining the Ottawa Senators.
Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion announced Tuesday the team will have Porter as a part of its coaching staff, according to a release.
Porter will coach the Ottawa Capitals.
Porter was an assistant coach with the Ottawa Maple Leafs and played in the NHL for 15 seasons.
He was also a member of the New Jersey Devils organization from 1996-2005.
Dorion said Porter’s new position will be an assistant to coach.
Ottawa will play its final game on Dec. 8.
Porter spent two seasons with the Anaheim Ducks before being released in May of this year.
He spent parts of five seasons with San Jose, where he helped the Sharks win two Stanley Cups in the 1990s.
He played five seasons in Toronto, where the Leafs won four Stanley Cups and finished in the top three in the Eastern Conference in 2010-11.
