NEW YORK — New York City authorities say a man was found in the water on Sunday after authorities said he had urinated in the city’s main sewage system and was later found unresponsive.
The man was discovered in the Bronx’s Port of Chester and taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, police said.
Authorities said he was unresponsive and had no pulse.
They said he appeared to be in his mid-20s and had a history of health issues.
Officials said the man was not in custody.
NYPD Chief of Detectives James O’Neill said authorities were unable to immediately determine whether the man had died or if foul play was involved.
He said it was too early to say whether the incident was an isolated incident or was linked to an ongoing health issue.
Police on Saturday night said a man who was found on a New York state beach Sunday afternoon was unharmed.
A video of the incident showed the man lying on the beach with his arms in the air, while officers surrounded him and took him to Bellevues Medical Center for treatment.
At least one of the man’s friends told CNN he thought the man died.
